Each year, just 14 Yale students are selected to become the next Whiffenpoofs—joining the world’s oldest and best-known collegiate a cappella group.

Founded in 1909, the “Whiffs” began as a senior quartet singing weekly at Mory’s Temple Bar, Yale’s historic tavern. More than a century later, they remain one of the university’s most celebrated traditions, performing more than 200 concerts across six continents each year.

Their performances may seem effortless, but earning a place in the group is no easy feat. Their repertoire spans generations, blending Yale favorites, jazz standards and familiar hits with the rich harmonies and distinctive style that have made the Whiffenpoofs famous. They have performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the White House, and appeared on Gilmore Girls, Glee, Jeopardy! and Saturday Night Live.

Now, this year’s Whiffenpoofs return to The Palace for a special Saturday matinee. Fourteen exceptional voices, more than a century of tradition—and one wonderful afternoon of music.
